One of the whitepapers I have been working on has just been published. I have been working on this whitepaper with two of my fellow colleagues, Duncan Epping and Hany Michael. I am extremely excited by the publication of this whitepaper, as it is my first official whitepaper. It has been an interesting challenge and an exciting one to work with Duncan again (first time since the cloud practice days), and to also work with Hany. This whitepaper talks about how to implement a hybrid cloud strategy, and the concepts needed to do this. It covers VMware vCloud Air, VMware NSX and VMware vRealize Automation, and how they fit together to provide you with a hybrid cloud. It also has a really cool diagram produced by Hany. This was such a great project to work on, and was a joint collaboration between the Office of the CTO, the vCloud Air […]

vCloud Air vSphere Client update released
Today VMware released the vCloud Air vSphere Client update version 1.5.1. This release doesn’t have any new features, but does fix some issues that have been found in the previous version. The issues resolved that this release resolve are: Certificate requirement While establishing an SSL connection to vCloud Air, the plug-in verifies the SSL certificate of the site. As part of the installation process, you must download the certificate from https://vchs.vmware.com and add it to the trusted keystore of the vSphere Web Client. If you do not add the certificate, you will be unable to register your vCloud Air account with the plug-in or connect to vCloud Air. Internationalization The plug-in now accepts non-ASCII characters in text fields and displays names with non-ASCII characters correctly. Smaller package size The plug-in package size has been reduced significantly, to approximately 10 MB. How I see the future of Hybrid Cloud
I have been thinking about writing this article on Hybrid Cloud for quite some time, but with everything going on at VMware, article writing time is becoming limited. Recently VMware announced the new Hybrid vCloud service and I wanted to take a look at the whole “Hybrid cloud model” and what I think (without my VMware hat on) it should actually be/do/mean. Lets start by looking at what the definition of Hybrid Cloud is. This article from searchcloudcomputing certainly sums up VMware’s and most peoples view. A hybrid cloud is a composition of at least one private cloud and at least one public cloud. A hybrid cloud is typically offered in one of two ways: a vendor has a private cloud and forms a partnership with a public cloud provider, or a public cloud provider forms a partnership with a vendor that provides private cloud platforms. My favourite way of describing […]
