vSphere Replication Unable to obtain SSL certificate – Bad Server Response

Working on upgrading our vCloud Air TMM lab today, I came across an interesting error that had me baffled for quite some time. I was upgrading the vSphere Replication Appliance from version 5.8 to version 6.0 and everything went smoothly.  After logging out and clearing the cache for the web browser (as documented here), I came across a new field that needs to be configured for the vSphere Replication Appliance to work.  Its the LookupService Address.  This didn’t exist in the previous version, but easy I thought.  Lets enter the vCenter server FQDN and away we go. vSphere Replication Unable to obtain SSL certificate Then I received the error: Unable to obtain SSL certificate: Bad server response; is a LookupService listening on the given address? If you perform a quick google, you are reffered to this KB article, but DNS wasn’t the problem, I could ping both the long FQDN […]

VMUG April

Netherlands VMUG Review 2015

I got the opportunity to attend the Netherlands VMUG today.  This is the first time I have attended the Netherlands VMUG so I was looking forward to it.  I have heard good things about the Netherlands VMUG from my colleagues. Lets start with the attendance.  The Netherlands VMUG has the opportunity to become the largest VMUG in the globe.  Currently the record is held by Indianapolis at 935 attendees.  The Netherlands VMUG has 975 registered attendees, so it will be good too see if this is achieved at the end of the day. The first session was the keynote with @JoeBaguley. Joe is an excellent presenter and always impresses when presenting sessions.  This session had it all, humor, information, strategy and technology. Joe talked about the direction of where IT  is going.  His point is that IT is not all about infrastructure, but is about the App and Data.  IT […]

Why I loved living in California

As I sit in a hotel reminiscing on my life in California I thought I would write down the reasons about why I loved living in California.  I am doing this for two reasons really, one it might help me move on from what I classed as a very happy period in my life, and two it is a written reminder of the fun I had for when I get older and my ol’ mind isn’t what it once was. Ambitious Dream Let me begin by saying that living in California was my life’s ultimate dream.  Specifically it was living and working in Silicon Valley that was the dream.  I have been interested in computers and technology ever since I was a young boy (read this article about my early computer years).  I remember being 15 years old on a family holiday in France, talking to an American, who constantly […]

Dell U2410 PIP (Picture in Picture)

Today I wanted to configure my Dell U2410 to use Picture in Picture so I could watch the cricket while I was working 🙂 Now, I thought this was simple.  Select the menu and choose PIP and select HDMI.  Turns out thats not actually the case.  The Dell U2410 only supports PIP for certain inputs. It took me a while to find, Here is the full list of supported PIP modes that you can actually watch at the same time. Main Source = VGA PIP to = DVI, HDMI, DP, Component, Composite Main source = DVI PIP to = VGA, DP, Component, Composite Main Source = HDMI PIP to = VGA, DP, Component, Composite Main Source = DP PIP to = VGA, DVI, HDMI, Component, Composite Main Source = Component PIP to = VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP, Composite Main Source = Composite PIP to = VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP, Component […]
