VMware launches Pay as you go cloud

VMware launches Pay as you go Cloud Service

VMware officially launched the VMware vCloud Air Virtual Private Cloud On-Demand (or for short VPC On-Demand) yesterday 20th January.  This is a major milestone in VMware’s cloud offerings, and finally brings the agility to the cloud offering that enterprises and developers alike have been asking for. The Pay as you go offering, allows anyone to simply sign up with a credit card and start consuming resources.  You only get charged for what you use, and is billed on a per minute basis.  Unlike the subscription cloud VMware offer, this allows you to simply spin up a VM when you need for a particular amount of time and then destroy it and only get charged for that period it was in use.  Perfect for those seasonal demands when you have ran out of capacity in your data center and need something quick. The full announcement can be read on VMware’s blog […]

Veeam podcast with Rick Vanover and David Hill

Yesterday I recorded a Veeam podcast with Rick Vanover.  It was a great honor to be asked by Rick to take part in one of his podcasts.  They are extremely popular with the virtualisation community and I want to thank Rick for inviting me on to talk. This podcast is episode number 103 in the series and is titled vCloud Air: Explain it to me. Rick writes a nice introduction: In this episode, Rick Vanover hosts David Hill. David works in Technical Marketing at VMware and is one of the best when it comes to VMware technologies and vCloud Air is what he is focusing on nowadays. Rick and David speak about what vCloud Air is at the high level, how it is priced and how some of the specific storage features like SSD-accelerated storage are used in vCloud Air. The cool thing about Rick’s podcasts is that they are […]

Server Certificate not verified error vCloud Air Plugin

After upgrading the VMware vSphere web client vCloud Air plugin today, I received the error, Server Certificate Not Verified. This error appeared when I was trying to add in my vCloud Air credentials. First you click the register vCloud Air Account Then you enter the credentials However, once you click OK you receive the error: Server Certificate Not Verified This error is actually expected, as the new release of the vCloud Air plugin version 1.5.1 release notes specifically state: Certificate requirement While establishing an SSL connection to vCloud Air, the plug-in verifies the SSL certificate of the site. As part of the installation process, you must download the certificate from https://vchs.vmware.com and add it to the trusted keystore of the vSphere Web Client. If you do not add the certificate, you will be unable to register your vCloud Air account with the plug-in or connect to vCloud Air. The vCloud Air […]
