Rename Edge Gateway

Rename Edge Gateway in vCHS

As most of you know, I recently joined the vCHS BU as a Technical Marketing Architect. While playing with vCHS, I deployed my own Edge Gateway device, so I could have access to my VM’s from the internet. What happened? Well typically I got a call from Colotti telling me I hadn’t conformed to his naming conventions. (Typical if you know Colotti). Damn, I thought. I will have to redeploy the edge gateway now, and reconfigure all my firewall rules! For anyone who works with vCloud Director, you will know that you can only rename edge gateways if you are a global admin. Being an Org Admin just isnt enough power. Within vCHS I am only an org admin, so no luck there. Damn again I thought. I really do have to re-deploy it! Wait a minute… Whats this? A nice shiny rename Edge Gateway button within the vCHS UI! VMware Home Lab

My VMware Home Lab v2

A while back I wrote an article on what my VMware Home Lab looked like.  (Original Article is here) Since I wrote this article I have been able to acquire some more HP Microservers (Thanks again @VMRandy).  I have spent some time re-building the whole lab, and bringing everything up to the latest GA versions of VMware products.  I thought it was about time I updated my Home Lab article so people could see what I have done now. As in the previous article, lets start by looking at my kit: 1 x HP ML115 G5 – Quad Core AMD Opteron 8GB RAM 2 x 256GB HD – RAID 1 2GB USB 2 x 1GB NIC 1 x 1GB On-board NIC 2 4 x HP Microserver N54L – 2.2Ghz 16GB RAM 4 x 256GB HD – RAID 5 2GB USB 2 x 1GB NIC 1 x 1GB On-board NIC 1 x […]

enable backups

Enable backups of Virtual Machines in vCloud Hybrid Service

Starting in my new role as Technical Marketing Manager yesterday for the vCloud Hybrid Service, I have found that you can very easily backup your VM’s running in vCHS. I wasnt aware you could do this. Most people who have been following my blog over the years know that backups and vCloud Director have in the past been a challenge to say the least. With vCloud Hybrid Service you can enable daily backups of you VMs very easily. Enable Backups of Virtual Machines So lets take a look at how you enable backups within vCHS. Login to the portal at vchs.vmware.com Find the Virtual Machine you want to backup, and click the drop down arrow:  From the menu click Enable Data Protection You will be asked if you want to continue and Enable Data Protection Once the task is completed, you will see the notification confirming it has been enabled […]

New Role at VMware

New role at VMware – Senior Technical Marketing Architect

I have now been at VMware for nearly four years, and I still love every day.  I am pleased to announce that I am taking on a new role at VMware – I am joining the vCloud Hybrid Service Business Unit as a Senior Technical Marketing Architect. This is an exciting time for me.  This will be my first transfer out of Global Technology Solutions (GTS).  Having worked within the Cloud Practice, Center of Excellence, and Professional Services Engineering teams all created out of re-orgs, I am extremely excited to be moving to one of the key areas of VMware.  An added bonus and a cool thing about this move too is it gives me the opportunity to team up with Chris Colotti again.  I am also looking forward to working with Massimo Re Ferre again, I have missed his email debates, and will be enjoying picking them back up. My transfer […]
