wordpress change domain names

WordPress change domain names

Well I thought it was time to change domain names hosting my blog WordPress site. Hello from davidhill.co and goodbye virtual-blog.com So why did I make this decision?  I certainly haven’t taken it lightly.  Moving Domain Names is challenging and requires a lot of thought and pre-planning.  However, I wanted to have a blog site that was more relevant to me personally, rather than just purely virtualisation.  My old domain name just didn’t fully reflect the content anymore.  I was able to purchase davidhill.co when they released the .co domains with the intention of switching.  Now I have finally bitten the bullet and gone ahead with the migration. WordPress Change Domain Names So what steps did I take? Well first off, I bought the domain name (yeah duh!!) Secondly I spent a number of hours researching what I had to do to manage my SEO. This is a really good […]

Rebranded and renamed

Hello from davidhill.co and goodbye virtual-blog.com I have decided to rebrand and rename my blog site to better reflect me and what I write about.  Not everything I write about is virtualisation and felt that beginning 2014 it was time to finally move over. As you may notice, not everything is working as expected.  Some of the plugins are crashing the site, and have had to be disabled.  Fancybox (the image popup) is having some issues for example. Please bear with me while I resolve the issues and get everything working. Once everything is completed and fully working, I will be writing a lessons learned post for anyone else considering undertaking a domain name change.

multicast within cloud environments

Multicast within Cloud environments

Question: Can you use Multicast within Cloud Environments? I got asked this question the other day on the Q&A for the Virtual VMUG. Their question was “could they use Multicast within Cloud environment?” specifically vCHS. The short answer yes you can but it depends 🙂 The Long Answer Lets initially look at what Multicast is, this is an excerpt from Wikipedia: In computer networking, multicast is the delivery of a message or information to a group of destination computers simultaneously in a single transmission from the source. Copies are automatically created in other network elements, such as routers, but only when the topology of the network requires it. IP multicast is a technique for one-to-many communication over an IP infrastructure in a network. It scales to a larger receiver population by not requiring prior knowledge of who or how many receivers there are. Multicast uses network infrastructure efficiently by requiring […]

Rename Edge Gateway

Rename Edge Gateway in vCHS

As most of you know, I recently joined the vCHS BU as a Technical Marketing Architect. While playing with vCHS, I deployed my own Edge Gateway device, so I could have access to my VM’s from the internet. What happened? Well typically I got a call from Colotti telling me I hadn’t conformed to his naming conventions. (Typical if you know Colotti). Damn, I thought. I will have to redeploy the edge gateway now, and reconfigure all my firewall rules! For anyone who works with vCloud Director, you will know that you can only rename edge gateways if you are a global admin. Being an Org Admin just isnt enough power. Within vCHS I am only an org admin, so no luck there. Damn again I thought. I really do have to re-deploy it! Wait a minute… Whats this? A nice shiny rename Edge Gateway button within the vCHS UI! […]
