Heading back to Vendor Land

Well… after a bit of time away and a nice sabbatical from social media it is now time for my return.

Where do I start?  Post Covid has certainly been an interesting time in my life.  Divorce, custody battles which I won, trying to keep my kids on track, and leaving Veeam after it all just became to much to deal with all at once, I decided to take some time off work completely.  That is completely no work, not looking for work, and just focus on my kids.  I decided to go back to the UK for a while and spend time with my family, with my kids.  It was fun, I needed the break, and my kids benefited massively from having me fully present, without hearing the words, Daddy has a call, I will be free in an hour.

Fast forward 12 months, and I decided to take a role with a company based in the UK as the Lead Global Cloud Architect, so I have spent the last 18 months back in the customer space.  After 14 years in Vendor Land with Veeam and VMware, it was interesting and fun to go back to working for one customer, focusing on their challenges, and helping drive change through architecture, processes and procedures.  I had a great time!

However, the itch to be back in the vendor space grew too much.  I missed talking to a variety of different customers, learning new use cases, and driving change in products and features due to the outcomes of these conversations.  I also missed delivering presentations, and building collateral.  On that point, I recently made the decision to join Checkpoint Software as a Cloud Product Manager and AWS Technical Alliance Manager.  Pretty much everyone has heard of Checkpoint, and as they continue to deliver greater capabilities in the cloud space, integrating with more and more services and architectures, and scaling in a multi-cloud multi-platform world, I believe its a great time to join the company.  My role is to help provide that focus on product features and integration with AWS services, and to help drive the GTM strategy and delivery in partnership with AWS.

I am back in my adopted home of Austin, Texas.  I missed the UK after 10 years away, but Texas is home and where I belong.  The new role is going to be fast paced, interesting and exciting, and I am extremely happy to be back in Vendor Land.
