How to deploy a vCloud Networking and Security edge device

Today I have been working in the lab messing around with vCloud Networking and Security for one of the projects I am working on. With all the new changes in vCloud Networking and Security version 5.1, deploying an edge device needs a little understanding. I have written this blog article to walk you through the steps involved in deploying an edge device, and what to look for when you have deployed it. The following steps show how to deploy a vCloud Networking and Security edge device through the vCloud Networking and Security Manager. Login to the vCloud Networking and Security Manager (formerly and still called vShield Manager) Expand Datacenters, and select the datacenter you want to deploy your edge device in, and select the tab Network Virtualization Select Edges.  You will be shown a list of the current edge devices.  Click the green plus to add a new edge device […]

How to add a new storage profile to an existing PvDC in vCloud Director 5.1

I got asked a question by @erikbussink today about whether you can add in newly created storage profile to an already existing Provider VDC (PvDC). I initially looked in the wrong area for this, and answered no! However after opening my eyes, I realised that it is actually possible and I should have realised straight away. To add a new profile follow the steps below: Login to vCloud Director Select Manage and Monitor Select Provider VDC Select Storage Profiles from the tab along the top Click the green + (plus) and you will be prompted with the add storage profile window Select the storage profile, click add and then ok You will then see the new storage profile assigned with a green tick showing you […]

Refresh Storage Profiles in vCloud Director 5.1

Refresh Storage Profiles in vCloud Director 5.1

I noticed a very handy new menu item in vCloud Director 5.1 today. Refresh Storage profiles.  If you are creating Storage Profiles in vCenter, they dont show up in vCD immediately, which can be a bit frustrating if you are wanting to immediately assign those Storage Profiles.  The steps below show you how to refresh the storage profiles, so that they are immediately available in vCD after you have created them.  If your wondering how to create Storage Profiles in vCenter, Frank Denneman has written a really great article on storage profiles, its definitely worth the read. Login to vCD Click Manage & Monitor Select vCenters Right click on the vCenter you want to refresh and select Refresh Storage Profiles You will now see the storage profiles available when creating a new PvDC Please Note: You will not see any Storage Profiles displayed under Storage Profiles until they have been assigned to […]
