VMware vCloud Air Supported Operating Systems

Andy Steven who is a colleague of mine working in the EMEA vCloud Air team asked me what Operating Systems are supported in VMware vCloud Air? This isn’t the first time I have been asked this question, so I thought I would quickly publish the list, to provide easy reference to lookup which vCloud Air Operating Systems are supported. As most of you know, VMware vCloud Air leverages vCloud Director to enable the cloud capabilities needed to provide a public cloud service.  vCloud Director supports a wide variety of 32 bit and 64 bit Operating Systems. vCloud Air Supported Operating Systems The current Operating Systems supported by vCloud Director are: Microsoft Windows Linux Microsoft Windows Server 2012 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Microsoft Windows 8 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Microsoft Windows 8.1 SUSE Enterprise Linux 11 Microsoft […]

Veeam Podcast

Veeam podcast with Rick Vanover and David Hill

Yesterday I recorded a Veeam podcast with Rick Vanover.  It was a great honor to be asked by Rick to take part in one of his podcasts.  They are extremely popular with the virtualisation community and I want to thank Rick for inviting me on to talk. This podcast is episode number 103 in the series and is titled vCloud Air: Explain it to me. Rick writes a nice introduction: In this episode, Rick Vanover hosts David Hill. David works in Technical Marketing at VMware and is one of the best when it comes to VMware technologies and vCloud Air is what he is focusing on nowadays. Rick and David speak about what vCloud Air is at the high level, how it is priced and how some of the specific storage features like SSD-accelerated storage are used in vCloud Air. The cool thing about Rick’s podcasts is that they are […]

vCloud Air vSphere client update

vCloud Air vSphere Client update released

Today VMware released the vCloud Air vSphere Client update version 1.5.1.  This release doesn’t have any new features, but does fix some issues that have been found in the previous version. The issues resolved that this release resolve are: Certificate requirement While establishing an SSL connection to vCloud Air, the plug-in verifies the SSL certificate of the site. As part of the installation process, you must download the certificate from https://vchs.vmware.com and add it to the trusted keystore of the vSphere Web Client. If you do not add the certificate, you will be unable to register your vCloud Air account with the plug-in or connect to vCloud Air. Internationalization The plug-in now accepts non-ASCII characters in text fields and displays names with non-ASCII characters correctly. Smaller package size The plug-in package size has been reduced significantly, to approximately 10 MB. To read the full release notes follow: https://www.vmware.com/support/hybridcloud/doc/vcaplugin_151_rel_notes.html Please remember when […]
