Today I wanted to configure my Dell U2410 to use Picture in Picture so I could watch the cricket while I was working 🙂
Now, I thought this was simple. Select the menu and choose PIP and select HDMI. Turns out thats not actually the case. The Dell U2410 only supports PIP for certain inputs.
It took me a while to find, Here is the full list of supported PIP modes that you can actually watch at the same time.
Main Source = VGA
PIP to = DVI, HDMI, DP, Component, Composite

My challenge is that I use a Mac Mini with my Dell U2410 and a Apple Thunrderbolt Displasy. No big deal your thinking? Switch your cables around. Well I use the Thunderbolt port for my Thunderbolt Apple Display and the HDMI port for the Dell monitor. Unfortunatly the Mac Mini cannot send an analogue signal out of the HDMI port, so I cannot use a DVI/VGA convertor.

Thanks David,
Well I’ve been using the monitor for a nearly a year and finally went to set up PIP and when it wouldn’t work the way I hoped, I found your site which explains the symptoms!
It can select between DVI1 and HDMI, but it can’t do Picture-In-Picture with both ?
I wouldn’t have bought it had I thought that was the case, but of course it’s too late.
Then I found that, even though the monitor doesn’t have speakers, Windows 8 thinks it does and hijacks the laptops sound output. Isn’t tech fun ?
